(the “Program Rules”)

SPONSOR
The Press Start CoLab Program (the “Program”) is administered and sponsored by nowly, which is a division of Teachers Life Insurance Society (Fraternal) (“Teachers Life” or the “Sponsor”) which sells life, accident and sickness insurance. Additional sponsors may join before the Contest closes.

PROGRAM PERIOD
Beginning on May 8th, 2023 applicants were invited to submit an initial application to participate in the Program and the application period closes on June 2nd, 2023 (the “Application Period”). However, the Sponsor may, in its sole and absolute discretion, accept applications received after June 2nd, 2023.

Applicants that are selected to participate in the Program will receive notice of their acceptance via email from the Sponsor on or before the date the Program begins. The Program begins on July 6th, 2023 and ends on until August 21st 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Program Period”). No further Program entries or proposals will be accepted after August 21st, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Program End Date”).

ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION
The Program is open to residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who: (i) are aged 18 to 29 (participants must be at least 18 years of age on or before December 31, 2023 and cannot be older than 29 years old as of January 1, 2023); (ii) have been selected by the Sponsor after submitting a Program application within the Application Period; (iii) are available to attend all of the following virtual sessions: (x) one kick-off onboarding session, (y) the three virtual co-creation sessions, and (z) three inspiration sessions; and (iv) submit a proposal which meets the Submission Guidelines. Employees of the Sponsor, its affiliated companies or agents, advertising and promotion agencies and the Program judges, and those with whom they reside in the same household, are not eligible to participate.

By participating in this Program, participants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bound by, these Program Rules. Participants who do not comply with all of the Program Rules are subject to disqualification by the Sponsor, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF TEACHERS LIFE OR HAVE AN INSURANCE POLICY ISSUED TO YOU BY TEACHERS LIFE TO PARTICIPATE.
To participate you must be between the ages of 18 and 29 and meet the eligibility requirements set out above under “Eligibility for Participation”.

Any attempt or suspected attempt to use robotic, automatic, programmed or otherwise illicit means to enter or participate in the Program, or any other methods not authorized by these Program Rules, including, but not limited to, creating multiple accounts, identities, or registrations, all in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, shall be deemed as tampering and will disqualify you from entering, participating, receiving the honorarium and/or winning a grant. Applications or proposal submissions that contain false or incomplete information are void. Entries or proposals that are late, lost, stolen, illegible, contain false information, are damaged, misdirected, mutilated, garbled or incomplete, altered or otherwise irregular or that do not conform with or satisfy any or all of the conditions of the Program Rules are void. Participants grant Sponsor a non-exclusive licence to use all entries and submissions for any purpose. Proof of transmission (for example, screenshots or captures) does not constitute proof of entry or receipt of an entry.

GRANTS & AWARDS
A minimum total of $50,000 in cash grants is available. One your proposal submission, you will be required to indicate which grant denomination you are submitting for up to a maximum of $10,000. There may be additional grant funds available that will be communicated to participants through the program as they are secured with corporate sponsor partners. All participants assume any and all liability for any cost, expense, injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by entering, participating in this Program or the receipt of a grant, including without limitation payment for any applicable taxes. Once a grant or honorarium has been paid in accordance with written instructions from a selected participant, the grant or honorarium is deemed to be in such participant’s possession, will not be replaced and the Sponsor shall have no further obligation to such participant and no alternate will be selected. Payment of a grant or honorarium will be made either by electronic funds transfer or mailed cheque in accordance with written instructions provided by the participant.

In addition to grant funding, we will also be offering awards, determined by our partners, our communities, and the public, in recognition of your hard work and success.

  • In-Kind Business Opportunities: These may include internships, mentorships, in-kind business services to help you get your idea launched. We will advise prior to August 21st 2023 all available In-Kind Business Partner Opportunities Available. You will be required consideration.
  • The People’s Choice Award: $500 Honorarium for the 3-Minute pitch with the most likes on videos posted on TL YouTube page
  • The Community Choice Award: $500 Honorarium for the 3-Minute pitch with the most votes from the CoLab Community
  • The Teachers Life Award: $500 Honorarium for the 3-Minute pitch with the most votes from the Teachers Life community of staff and board
  • Peer Awards: An opportunity for participants to recognize their peer’s work and accomplishments within the program. Recipients of the Peer Awards will receive a certificate for their recognition.

ODDS OF RECEIVING A GRANT
The odds of receiving a grant depend on whether the proposal submitted meets the Submission Guidelines and the Evaluation Criteria and on the number of eligible entries and proposals received by the Program End Date.

GRANT SELECTION
To be awarded a grant, eligible participants must, on or before August 21st, 2023, submit all program grant requisites as listed below that meet the Submission Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria. To be awarded a grant, eligible participants must also have attended all of the following virtual sessions: (x) one kick-off onboarding session, (y) the three virtual co-creation sessions, and (z) he three inspiration sessions.

On September 14th, 2023, at approximately 4pm ET during a virtual event, the Teachers Life/nowly Insurance staff will announce the the grant and award recipients. 

Before being declared a grant recipient the selected recipients will be contacted by phone, email or within the Press Start CoLab Hub online and notified that their proposal is eligible for a grant. The Sponsor will then email, and the selected participant will be required to sign and return within five (5) business days of such notification, a declaration of eligibility and a liability release, which: (i) acknowledges the Program Rules and confirms compliance with the Program Rules; (ii) releases the Sponsor, its affiliated divisions, companies and agents, advertising and promotion agencies, the Program judges and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives, successors and assigns from any liability in connection with the Program, the participant’s participation therein and/or receipt of the program and use or misuse of the prize or any portion thereof. If a selected participant: (i) cannot be contacted by phone or email within three (3) calendar days of selection or there is a return of any prior notification as undeliverable; or (ii) fails to return a duly executed copy of the declaration of eligibility and liability release within the specified time, then he/she will be disqualified and will forfeit any grant or honorarium, and the Sponsor reserves the right to select an alternate participant from among the remaining eligible entries. All grant recipients are required to use the grant money within 12 months of receiving and must provide an update to the Press Start CoLab Administrators at a 6-month and 12-month check in point.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND EVALUATION CRITERIA
Proposals must adhere to the following guidelines (collectively, the “Submission Guidelines”):

  • Proposals must be in writing in a PDF format and include all the Program Prerequisites below under Evaluation Criteria.
  • Proposals must be submitted via the Press Start CoLab Hub as specified by the Sponsor.
  • Proposals must be no more than a maximum file size of 5 MB (Note: written proposals must include a link to the 1-3 minute video pitch as specified by the sponsor).
  • Proposals must be an original and unconventional solution which address the mental health crisis in Canada.
  • Must reference any additional work or research in the participants’ preferred citation style.
  • Papers must be written in English.
  • Proposals must be the author’s own original, unpublished work.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria (collectively, the “Evaluation Criteria”):

  • Program Grant Requisites: 1-3-minute video pitch, a written proposal, completed external feedback challenge form as a PDF.
  • Originality: Does it show creative thinking? Are there similar solutions in the market? Is the idea an alternative to existing solutions or an evolution of an existing solution?
  • Quality of the proposal: Is the solution polished, thorough, and does it detail the resources needed?
  • Clarity of the proposal: Is the idea described clearly? Is the purpose clear? How does the proposal show that the team has clearly understood the problem space?
  • Viability: Is it doable within the next 60-90 days?
  • Desirability: Does the solution have a clear customer/ user segment with a clearly defined need?
  • Feasibility: Does the proposal demonstrate the ability to execute the technical, logistical and operational parts of the solution?
  • Impact: demonstrate having meaningful impact in minimizing the physical, mental and spiritual impacts of our identified issues.

PUBLICITY AND PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
By participating in the Program, participants consent to the use of their name, address, email address, postal code, telephone number, social media handle(s), comments and image, whether on videotape, photograph or any other means, for the administration of the Program or any publicity carried out by the Sponsor, without further notice or compensation.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
All intellectual property (except for proposals provided by Program participants), including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Sponsor. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any of the Sponsor’s intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsor is strictly prohibited.

HONORARIUM PAYMENT
If you submit a proposal on or before August 21st, 2023 that meets all of the Submission Guidelines, and provided that you attend all of the following virtual sessions: (x) the kick-off onboarding session, and (y) a minimum of two out of three virtual Co-Creation sessions and Inspiration Speaker sessions known as the Challenge Sessions, you will be eligible to receive $500 CAD in cash.

GENERAL
By entering the Program, each participant agrees to abide by these Program Rules. The Program is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and is void where prohibited by law. The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to all aspects of the Program are final and binding on all participants, without right of appeal.

Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend, withdraw or amend the Program in any way, without prior notice or obligation, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus or bug, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor that interferes with the proper conduct of the Program as contemplated by these Program Rules. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the Program is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, the Sponsor reserves the right to cancel the Program. Any attempt to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Program may be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

All applications and proposals (collectively “entries”) are subject to verification at any time and for any reason. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification): (i) for the purposes of verifying an individual’s eligibility to participate in the Program; (ii) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility and/or legitimacy of any entry or grant ; and/or (iii) for any other reason the Sponsor deems necessary, in its sole and absolute discretion, for the purposes of administering the Program in accordance with these Program Rules. Failure to provide such proof to the satisfaction of the Sponsor in a timely manner may result in disqualification in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor.

The Sponsor will not be responsible for electronic communications that are undeliverable as a result of any form of active or passive filtering of any kind, or insufficient space in participant’s email account to receive email messages.

By entering the Program, each participant expressly consents to the Sponsor, its agents and/or representatives, storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted with his/her entry only for the purpose of administering the Program and in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy (available at: https://teacherslife.com/privacy-policy/.)
