Following the tremendous success of our inaugural give back program, we're very excited to announce the launch of our 2nd Annual Press Start CoLab Program, focusing on the Mental Health Crisis in Canada.
The 2022 CoLab Program
Last year, we witnessed the amazing work of 50 youth changemakers who collaborated with our respected mentors and speakers to create innovative solutions for social issues. Mental health was one of the three issues they tackled, and it resonated the most with our 2022 CoLab participants. That’s why we chose mental health as the main theme of this year’s program.

This Year’s Program
To narrow the scope of the Mental Health Crisis in Canada, we worked with a wonderful panel of mental health experts, including clinicians, youth, and industry leaders, to develop the 4 sub-focus areas underneath this topic:
Investigating mental healthcare systemic barriers and design constraints of cost, treatment modalities, technology, support systems, and the patient journey.
Examining the approaches to de-stigmatizing and educating groups, including but not limited to families, communities, individuals, youth, and the general public, on mental health and mental illness.
Recognizing the nuances of intersectionality that affect mental health and the barriers to appropriate mental health resources, including cultural sensitivities, diverse approaches to treatment and care, available languages, inclusivity, and equity.
Focusing on mental health evaluations and research methods that are grounded in inclusive, up-to-date, and politically unbiased data.
Throughout the approximately 10-week virtual program, participants (ages 18-29) will collaborate with peers and mentors to ideate solutions around at least 1 of the 4 sub-focus areas. Our participants will be equipped with specialized tools and resources, accompanied with collaborative mentorship to help bring their ideas to life.
The program’s events alternate between "Co-Creation Sessions" with fellow participants and mentors, and "Challenge Sessions" from our inspiring panel of keynote speakers. We have an absolutely incredible lineup this year of inspirational speakers and mentors to help inspire and guide our youth.
Leading the program’s events is our MC and speaker, Kwame Osei, who has dedicated his professional life to helping raise and empower youth to realize their full potential. Kwame will share his personal story and professional experience throughout the program to inspire our youth changemakers. In addition to Kwame, we have an incredible lineup of speakers, including Larissa Crawford, Guy Felicella, Teddy Syrette, Dr. Susan Biali Haas, and Dr. James Makokis and Anthony Johnson.
At the end of the program, participants will submit a proposal outlining their innovative solution to our esteemed panel of judges. Not only will participants receive a $500.00 honorarium for their participation and a new network of peers and mentors that lasts beyond the program, but they will also have access to a pool of over $50,000.00 in Grants, Awards, and In-Kind Partnerships to put their ideas into action. Opportunities such as In-Kind Business Services and Internships are a new enhancement to this year’s CoLab Program to provide additional resources for participants to launch their ideas into the market.
